Dreams and Nightmares Create Chrysalis

During those unrecognized perimenopausal years my art reflected a merging of my dreams and nightmares with my reality.  I obsessed.  My energy level was phenomenally high!  After teaching 8 hours each day I'd then seclude myself in my studio and create 8 hours more.

The sketch on the left reveals one of my obsessions - subconsciously I drew in a frog brain.  On the right is the sketch of my dream/nightmare that began the entire creation of "Chrysalis" - Diana struggling to emerge from that tightly spun cocoon of repression.  The struggle was hell, the emergence scary, and the consequences both exhilarating and depressing.  We must all take personal responsibility for our actions.  My consequence was estrangement from my lovely daughter who was then 18.
