Only 17% write down their dreams. However, 91% state they recall and discuss their dreams. Many respondents believe that discussion of their dreams with close friends and/or family is more helpful than solitary recording because talking with someone who knows them enables self-discovery and deeper insights. Discussion can even help alter negative dreaming.

Treatment:

Encouraging is the increase in use of psychotherapy, hypnotherapy and counseling. In this 4th survey results, 50% seek healing through psychotherapy and counseling, while 32% now find help through hypnotherapy.   82% had surgery and 73% opted for chemotherapy and radiation. 82% also seek strength and healing from themselves.   76% seek help from support groups and friends. 68% find help in their religious belief.

Many respondents continue recommending meditation, visual imaging, a positive attitude and good nutrition.  However, in this current survey results, many also suggest exercise, massage, getting closer to nature, music, and changing one’s life style by prioritizing.  Some respondents went so far as to shed all negative relationships, change their occupations and move to a different physical environment.   A few found healing through their jobs.  Interestingly, 8% list themselves as artist first, with their day job listed secondarily – and find healing through their art.

76% of both men and women state that they find healing through imaging/visualization/dreaming.

Dreams prior to having cancer were acknowledged by 56%, while 68% were aware of their dreams during cancer.

How has your life changed?
I was surprised that 38% of the people taking this survey stated that their careers had improved !     An equal number (29%) either experienced no change or that their careers had worsened.

Again the majority (76%) expressed an improvement in their self-image and in their relationships.

82% found their spirituality improved.

From personal experience, I’m not surprised that 88% found their reactions to life improved. No doubt this reflects their change in attitude. [More on this later.]

47% said their spousal/significant other relationship improved after having cancer. But sad to say that 41% stated that parental relationships worsened. 68% now have a better relationship with their children, but 38% have worse relationships with their siblings

Over half of the respondents agree that as a result of discussing their dreams they are now better able to cope while dreaming and when awake, and now feel more connected in their waking life. 59% find that their reactions during their waking hours are more positive.

As before, the vast majority of dreamers describe themselves as a combination of Observer and Actor.
